APCTP, Pohang, South Korea
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Junior Research Group "Electronic structure and magnetism" of Igor Di Marco at the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP), Pohang, South Korea.
APCTP, founded in 1996, is an international organization dedicated to excellence in research and the training of young scientists in the Asia-Pacific region. APCTP offers a great research environment with strong connections to a number of active theoretical and experimental research groups at the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). APCTP has broad international agreements with many leading institutions around the globe for scientific exchanges. The Junior Research Group "Electronic structure and magnetism" has been established in December 2017 and a description of research, group members and leader can be found on the group webpage.
This position is part of the research project "Magnetism in transition metal doped topological insulators", financed by the National Research Foundation of Korea. The postdoctoral fellow will work on doped topological insulators, using density functional theory and dynamical mean-field theory. While most of the time will be spent at APCTP, exchange visits at Uppsala University, Sweden, will be required.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics, Theoretical Chemistry or Materials Science and have demonstrated an excellent scientific record of publications. The candidate should have a good knowledge of solid state physics, many-body physics and/or magnetism. Previous experience in electronic structure calculations and/or many-body models is required. Previous programming experience in Fortran or C is an advantage.
The appointment is initially for one year, but will be extended up to two additional years, if the research objectives are reached. The starting date for this position is 01/09/2020, but a limited flexibility in this regard is allowed. Salary follows the APCTP guidelines, starting at 32.500.000 KRW per year, for a junior postdoc. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
If you are interested, please prepare an application package including a brief cover letter (max 2 pages), the names of three professional references (possibly including your doctoral supervisor), your curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and a research statement of max 2 pages, where you describe your previous achievements. Please send your application package to
